Week April 30 - May 4

Reminders about the Spring Soirée and the Ogden International Band Spring Concert.
In addition, all students in Spanish, French or Chinese will be taking the STAMP test this month before May 31st, 2012 during their regular computer lab days.

We welcome our sister school students from Mexico. ¡Bienvenidos! In order to celebrate and learn a little bit more about Mexico and its food, students can order a $5 Mexican Food meal with a sandwish, drink and flan. All orders for this advisory are due to Mr. Espejo by Friday during advisory.

Reminder to students and parents - If you have lost or forgotten your ID, you need to ask the advisory teacher during advisory to give you a new one but there is a $2 one-time non-refundable fee for every temporary ID issued, as per our school rules. If you are in need of a new ID you will have to go to Student Service Center and pay a $20 one-time non-refundable fee to get a new one.

Week April 23-27

This week we are having two Field Trips on April 24th and 25th of April. We will meet at the East Campus. Day 1 we will go to the Shedd Aquarium and then to see the movie Bully at AMC Rivernorth. Day 2 students will go in small groups with a teacher to a site in the city using CTA to complete some tasks (similar to a scavenger hunt).

Friday April 26th is a half day for students and we will be celebrating Culture in a Suitcase. Students will rotate around different classrooms to learn from other countries from real people from those countries.

Week April 16-20

Field trip information for April 24 and 25. Students need to bring permission slip, $10 for bus and movie ticket, and a CTA card with a minimum value of $5 to do an activity around the city. This needs to be collected, Monday April 23rd the latest.

Week April 9 - 13

Please bring any Box Top for education as we are collecting them in our classroom to support Friends of Ogden and our school. This is the last week of the quarter and so we are trying to review our objectives for this school year, those we created on our first week of school.

Week March 12-16

We had elections to choose the cause that all middle school advisories will support. We have talked about bringing box tops to our room. There is a plastic pouch by the board to leave all our box tops so that we can contribute to our school fundraising. There are two opportunities to host students from Colorado and a possible exchange over the summer with a 13 old student from Navarra, Spain.

Week March 5-9

ISAT testing. We presented our poster and videos ,and addressed all 7th and 8th grade classrooms in our common advisory to present Jt. Judes and what they do to save lives. We also talked about the different things we can do to support them from Ogden.

Week 27-2

We have created a video with some information and data showing how St. Judes in making a different in childrens' lives.

Week 20-24

We have created a poster and a sript of the things we would like to say about St. Judes in order to support our choice.

Week Feb 13-17

We have decided to choose St. Jude's Hospital to take it to Advisories and support their cause as a Middle School. Now we need to work on a presentation to show others about what St. Jude's does and their impact as well as where they are located near us and our goals for our possible partnership to support them.

Students are now creating a presentation and a few posters to promote their cause choice around the school and promote the election of St. Judes for all Middle School advisories.

 

Week Feb 6 - Feb 10

- We have watched a PowerPoint about Earthquakes and how to get ready for them.
- We are trying to research information on different sorts of charities of our interest and decide on one that as a class we want to suggest to our common advisory. We will then defend our proposal to the other Middle School advisories and vote on the different options. Eventually we will start a project in our advisory to support the chosen cause and also reflecting on our experience in a classroom journal as we do so.
- Sex Education starts Tuesday 02/07/2012. All forms are in! yeah!!!

 

Week Jan 30 - Feb 3

As part of Digital Citizenship we talked and learned about "netiquette." You can watch the video from Brainpop here.

- Think about your new goals for this semester or perhaps adjust some goals you had for this academic year.
- Letter from Principal Staral.
- New "Emergency Information Form" distributed.

Please make sure that we receive all forms filled in and signed in a timely manner.

IMPORTANT: Ski & Snowboard Trip mandatory meeting scheduled on Tuesday February 7 at 11 am at the Auditorium.
